Why Is Energy From Windmills Expensive

You have to wonder about the financial system we live in when energy generated for free by windmills costs more than energy from oil or coal.
It costs money to get coal or oil out of the ground. It costs money to transport them to where they are needed. So, how can electrical generation by windmills cost so much?

When you build a windmill all the costs are up front. You build the windmill and your income comes in payments for the energy produced in the years ahead. So the profit comes once all the costs have been paid off but once those costs are paid all the income is profit.

When a power generating windmill is planned the costs have to be worked out ahead of time. The progected lifespan of the machine will decide whether the windmill installation is viable.
A well contructed windmill tower could last for 100 years but you can be sure the estimates of costs assume it lasts a lot less time than that.

We need to look at the production of renewabl;e energy as a long term commitment and stop worrying about short term profits. This is why these things need to be managed by governments who can look at the long term benefits of renewable energy for everyone rather than companies who are looking for short term profits for shareholders.

Why Use Oil When We Have The Sun?

All of our energy originates from the sun even the oil that we are so eagerly using up so why don’t we smply get our energy from the sun and bypass the intermediate levels of energy production?

It seems obvious that we should collect our energy from the sun but unfortunately ecxonomics gets in the way of common sense. At the current time it remains cheaper to suck oil out of the depths of the ground and transport it halfway around the globe than it is to simply collect the energy from the sun in solar collectors. It may be mad but that is the way things are right now.

It is only a matter of time until oil starts to get horrendously expensive and the old financial argument for using oil instead of solar energy will no longer apply. All the more reason then for us to work very hard on developing the best and most efficient solar collecting systems we can ready for the time when we start to run out of oil and the cost of oil and gas rises to levels we have never seen before.

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solar Panels?

There are several advantages of using solar panels to provide free electricity or heat energy from the sun but there are also a couple of disadvantages too.

Solar energy is free to collect and it is hard to see how the government could ever collect a tax on solar energy but the cost of setting up the solar panel collection system can be quite expensive.

Over the long term energy prices are likely to rise and with an expected lifespan of around 25 years solar panels could be a great investment for the future.
